Remembrance Day

Tomorrow we will be having a moment of silence for Remembrance Day.

Here is the sea of ceramic poppies in the Tower of London's famous moat.
1) Why are the poppies here?
2) What does each poppy represent?
3) Have you gone to see the poppies at the Tower of London? What did you think?

  2. The poppies were put there in honour of all the men who died in ww1 and all the other wars. Each poppy represents a soldier who died in one of the wars. I haven't seen the poppies at the Tower yet but I have seen them online and I thought they were amazing!

    1. Yes Dalya, you're quite right! Can you remember the nasty accident that happened to Tom Piper which prevented him from continuing making the poppies?

  9. I have a bit more information: The remembrance poppy has been used since 1921 to commemorate soldiers who have died in war. Inspired by the World War I poem "In Flanders Fields", they were first used by the American Legion to commemorate American soldiers killed in that war (1914–1918). They were then adopted by military veterans' groups in parts of the former British Empire: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Today, they are mainly used in the UK and throughout the Commonwealth to commemorate their servicemen and women who have been killed in all conflicts since 1914. Small artificial poppies are often worn on clothing for a few weeks prior to Remembrance Day/Armistice Day 11 November).[2] Poppy wreaths are also often laid at war memorials.

    Its really intresting.
