Welcome Emas!

Today we had a local Islington author come to visit, his name was Andy Naylor! He came to read his new narrative poem with KS1 and 2 and everybody loved it! Some children even went back to their classrooms so inspired that they chose to recreate the main character!

His poem begins...

Hello Earth people!
Emas is my name.
Back on my planet,
We all look the same.

We all have six fingers
And we all have four toes.
We all have one eye,
But no one has a nose.

I come from a planet
That’s close to the moon.
It’s small and it’s green
And it’s called Ziggleboom.

Today, we visited Great Missenden to go to the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre.

We are reporters!

The past few weeks we have been working up to writing a newspaper report all about the incident where George fed Grandma the Marvellous Medicine!

This was George's parents reaction when they came back from their errands...

We began by roleplaying as the reporter in order to find out what George's parents really thought...

What do you think the reporter may have asked George's dad?
How did he respond?
Did mum have anything to comment?

George was extremely naughty and decided to feed Grandma the medicine despite our wise words of advice!

On Wednesday 21st January, we will be welcoming the UK-based, children's author Edward Trayer (pen name Billy Bob Buttons) into our school!

A little Christmas surprise...

Dear Year 4 at Laycock Primary School, 

From all the way in chilly North Pole, I have had a good look at your blog. Excitingly, it looks like you have been working exceptionally hard! This season, the elves have been very busy making wonderful new things for you. It's been very cold here but luckily Mrs. Claus has been keeping me warm with lots of mugs of hot chocolate. 

I'm so proud of you all. Keep up the good work! I know you'll continue to be a good class. Can you please let me know what you'd like for Christmas? We may not have everything, but I'll see what I can do. Don't forget, I know when you're naughty and when you're nice so brush your teeth, do your chores, and be helpful to your family and friends.

Astonished astronomers!

One of the stars of the night sky had begun to change. This star had always been a very tiny star, of no importance at all. It had shone up there for billions and trillions and sillions of years in the Constellation of Orion, that great shape of the giant hunger that strides across space on autumn and winter nights. in all its time this tiny star had never changed in any way.
